Information for Future Students

In order to make the University System of Georgia (USG) more accessible to citizens who are not of traditional college-going age and to encourage a higher proportion of Georgians to benefit from life-long learning, the USG colleges and universities may admit as many non-traditional students as is appropriate based on institutional mission, academic programs, and success in retaining and graduating non-traditional students. There are two types of non-traditional admission:

Non-Traditional Freshmen

Non-traditional freshmen are defined as individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

1. Have been out of high school at least five years and whose high school class graduated at least five years ago;
2. Hold a high school diploma from an accredited or approved high school as specified in Section 4.2.1.1 of the 188ÀºÇò±È·Ö_ÌìÏÂ×ãÇòÍø of Regents Policy Manual or have satisfactorily completed the GED; and,
3. Have earned fewer than thirty transferable semester credit hours as defined in Section 4.2.1.3 of the 188ÀºÇò±È·Ö_ÌìÏÂ×ãÇòÍø of Regents Policy Manual.

Non-Traditional Transfers

Non-traditional transfer students are defined as individuals who meet all of the following criteria:

1. Have been out of high school at least five years or whose high school class graduated at least five (5) years ago; and,
2. Have earned thirty or more transferable hours of college credit, as defined in Section 4.2.1.3 of the 188ÀºÇò±È·Ö_ÌìÏÂ×ãÇòÍø of Regents Policy Manual.

Non-traditional freshmen and non-traditional transfer applicants are evaluated for Learning Support placement.

62 and Older Program

Georgia residents who are aged 62 and older may be eligible to take courses on a space available basis at little or no cost. Additional information can be found in 188ÀºÇò±È·Ö_ÌìÏÂ×ãÇòÍø of Regents Policy 4.2.1.5, Persons Aged 62 and Older. Students who are interested in this program should contact their college or university of interest for additional information.
